Join Our Lab

Our group works at the experimental frontier of quantum technology: ultracold atoms, precision clocks and sensors, and engineered light–matter interfaces that might power future distributed quantum sensing and quantum computing platforms.

Everyone involved in each project is an integral part of our team. We welcome local and international students and researchers who are curious about building real experiments and mastering experimental physics. If you are interested in learning more about our work, please contact us to discuss opportunities, both short and long term. We also actively support collaborations with students and academics at other research institutions.

Accommodation support: We can provide support for students joining from other Taiwan universities.

Undergraduate students

We constantly have new projects become available. Our state-of-the-art facilities support cutting edge projects in all our main research directions. No experience is needed, if you are interested in trying experimental physics contact us. A physics background is not required, we have had students from robotics, optical, electrical and mechanical engineering as well physics and chemistry. Projects can be tailored to suit your interests and background. As an undergraduate student you will ideally work closely with other team members giving you the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and build practical experimental skills. Ideally your work will lead to articles published in international scienctific journals and potentially presenting your work at international workshops and conferences.

Accommodation support may be available for students from other universities within Taiwan to spend time in our lab.

We offer a stipend of 6k NTD/month which can increase with experience up to 12k NTD/month.

Masters students

We have masters projects available in all our main research directions. If you are considering a masters project please contact us and we can describe some of the opportunities currently available in our lab. We do recommend first completing a smaller research project as an intern or an undergraduate as it will give you the opportunity to try things out and find out what kind of projects you enjoy which will help to achieve a good project match. As a masters student you would start off working closely with other team members but later take charge of one or more projects within one of our main research directions. You will have the opportunity to manage and lead a small project and ideally gain experience working with and helping to guide undergraduate and internship student projects. Ideally your work will lead to articles published in international scienctific journals and you will travel to present your work internationally. You are encouraged to collaborate with and spend time in other international research groups such as in Europe, North America and Japan.

Accommodation support may be available for students from other universities within Taiwan to spend time in our lab.

We offer a stipend of 10k NTD/month which can increase with experience up to 20k NTD/month.

PhD students

We strongly recommend completing an experimental AMO physics masters project or internship project before considering tackling an experimental PhD. As a PhD candidate you will begin working alongside other team members to learn new skills but a PhD is much more than that. A PhD project really is an opportunity to take charge of a large project and a significant part of one of our research directions. You will develop leadership and management skills guiding and teaching masters and undergraduate students as well as technical and scientific excellence while making a significant contribution to our scientific field. We aim for world-class results tha compare with the very best labs in the world, results which can be published in Nature, Science, PRL or PRX. We aim to ensure that our research infrastructure, opportunities and environment can match or better almost any European or North American lab. As a PhD student you will also be encouraged to collaborate with and spend time in other international research groups for example in Europe, North America or Japan as well as present your work internationally to develop your profile as an international researcher. For more information on our main research projects see our research projects page. Please contact us for more information or to discuss options.

The Taiwan International Graduate Program (TIGP) offers a comprehensive support program for PhD students and further support is available depending on experience.

Internships

IAMS Summer Internship

The IAMS summer internship program is focused on giving students from across Taiwan the opportunity to do cutting-edge research in the state-of-the-art research facilities at IAMS. No experimental AMO experience is needed, but students should have a strong background in physics or engineering. If you are interested in quantum science or experimental physics contact us. Information about our research projects can be found on our research projects page.

IAMS Summer Scholars are offered a monthly stipend of 20k NTD/month before tax.

NSTC International Internship Pilot Program (IIPP)

The NSTC International Internship Pilot Program is a new national program offering opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students from around the world to spend up to 3 months as a researcher in Taiwan. The internship typically takes place between June and December but last year the program was extremely popular and places are limited so you are encouraged to apply early. If you are interested in quantum science or experimental physics contact us. More information about our research projects can be found on our research projects page. See the IIPP web site for more details on program and application details.

NSTC IIPP scholars are offered a daily stipend of 1k NTD/day. Additional support may be offered to match other programs.

TIGP International Internship Program

The TIGP International Internship Program is focused on giving students from around the world the opportunity to spend 2 months undertaking an intensive research project at IAMS. More information about our research projects can be found on our research projects page.

TIGP International Internship Scholars are offered a monthly stipend of 30k NTD/month (before tax) in addition to some travel support.

IAMS International Internship Program

The IAMS International Internship Program supports international undergraduate and graduate students who wish to undertake a 2 month research project at IAMS where the this is not supported by other internship programs. More information about potential research projects can be found on our research projects page.

IAMS International Internship Scholars are offered a monthly stipend of 30k NTD/month (before tax) in addition to some travel support.

Research Jobs

IAMS Junior Fellowship

The IAMS Junior Fellowship is a prestigious fellowship awarded to researchers transitioning from postdoctoral research fellow to professor or research fellow. In consultation with the host lab you will have the opportunity to propose and lead your own research program. Further information about the IAMS junior fellowship program can be found here. Applications are open during August of each year, please see the IAMS web site for more information. If you are interested in applying for a junior fellowship hosted by our lab please contact us

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

As a postdoctoral researcher you will play a key role in guiding and leading research within our group. If you are an experienced AMO experimentalist with a PhD in experimental AMO physics please contact us to discuss opportunities.

We are always interested in collaborating with theorists and usually have a wish list of project we wish we had time to explore more fully as well as an eagerness to engage with proposals from the theory side. If you are interested in collaborating with us please contact us.

Support for postdocs depends on experience (typically 60-84k/month) but usually requires an application process. If you are interested please send your CV and publication list. It typically takes at least 3 months to arrange funding and visas.

Alternative National Service

If you are interested in completing your National Service as a researcher please contact us. As a full time researcher you will play a key role in at least one of our research projects.

More information about our research projects can be found on our research projects page.

Research Assistant

We are actively looking for research assistants. More information can be found on the IAMS recruitment page. Research assistants should have a strong background in experimental physics or engineering with strong preference given to those with experience in our lab or closely related AMO experimental labs. Others are strongly encouraged to first consider a student project or internship to gain skills and determine if experimental AMO physics is a good match with their interests.

Research assistants are paid 38-56k NTD/month depending on qualifications and experience.
